Show Notes

It’s time to kick off your trainers and grab yourself a nourishing bowl of nonsense soup. This week Nick attempts to talk himself down from a major purchase by reading its tech specs and features out on mic. We talk about our broken old man backs, plan some dream desk setups, and go shopping for Lycra at Poundland. Jon drops an easy catch, Nick accepts that he just likes running, and we really hope that someone plays the noise. If you liked the show, please consider supporting this week's charity by buying someone you know a Christmas gift at Oxfam—we have chosen the Super Girl gift, which can help to provide education, leadership training and attitude-changing media campaigns, helping to empower women and girls to claim their civil rights: [www.oxfam.org.uk/runnerpod](http://www.oxfam.org.uk/runnerpod) • [Ashes 2017-18: How to follow England’s tour of Australia on the BBC - BBC Sport](http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/41905863) • [Our giddy first episode](http://runnerpod.com/e/3547a9a505ac64L/) and the [The Lost Tapes](http://runnerpod.com/b/354ac3e6f7e854L/) • Jon once had this [Transformers book and tape title](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRGa-xKjuNU) • [The aLLreLi Soba Bluetooth headphones](http://amzn.to/2kb1cEF) are back in stock. It's the cyanide, stupid

Is this the real life, or scripted reality? This week, we’re caught in a time travel paradox as Nick gets his wish for an evening record—and instantly regrets it. We talk marathon recovery, we discuss bat and poo memes, we get emotional about cricket, and we drink (responsibly). Nick proves that he’s a grown up, Jon proves that he’s not, and we deliver on our listener guarantee to be “increasingly infrequent” with our longest edit yet. ## This Week * [Jon’s Rider](https://twitter.com/runnerpod/status/909028521955258368) * The scientists _do_ say [that cashews are poisonous, sometimes](http://www.living-foods.com/articles/rawcashew.html) * Amaretti Biscuits are made of [apricot kernels, and contain cyanide](https://www.robinsandsons.com/blogs/blog/180247431-history-of-amaretti-biscuit) and people used to like doing this [flying trick](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1ppo21Enj0) with them. * [Bat video](https://www.facebook.com/pg/tadhgflemingvideos/videos/) * [Tinder date poo lady](http://mashable.com/2017/09/05/poop-tinder-date-fire-department/#y1hsB8FuFaqo) * The Dennis Quaid movie [_Frequency_](http://mashable.com/2017/09/05/poop-tinder-date-fire-department/#y1hsB8FuFaqo) * [Batter bits at the chippy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scraps_\(batter\)) * Cramps, electrolytes, powders etc. [some thoughts here](https://www.runnersworld.com/health/how-to-treat-leg-cramps-while-running) * Mile/km markers—how should they count? Get it done before the clap

Failing to read the country's mood, we met up once again to talk about fitness, running and tech. Nick has found a new dead format to worry about, Jon is putting it all on the plate, and we offer up a hot take on Zoom calls. Remember, if you don't use lockdown to learn a language, write that novel or work on your side hustle you're probably just trying to keep going as best as you can in pretty testing circumstances and in all honestly that's as worth clapping as anything else going on right now. You're doing great and we're proud of you. This week's links: * Nick bought a [Kano](https://kano.me/uk/store/products/computer-kit). It's probably worth looking for on ebay as the novelty wears of fast. * Tbh the Kano is a Raspbery Pi with bells on, so maybe just get one of those and get the same benefit of a one hour diversion for the kids for a few quid... Nick could use [this kit to make a speaker for his NFC cards](https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pirate-radio-pi-zero-w-project-kit). What a talking point that would be. * He also got a [Yoto speaker](https://www.yotoplay.com/) which he swears is worth it. * Jon isn't on Twitter except for when he does [this](https://twitter.com/jonhickman/status/1254428473805987840). ...

Bandit at mile 5

OK juicer, it's time for some fitness, running and tech chat. This week it's actually about ethics in bluetooth headphone journalism. Nick's on the cans, Jon just wants to eat his dinner, and we try out some edgy current affairs jokes that are already out of date. As well as comparing notes on our latest runs, we get into some heavy follow up about ethics and consumption in consumer electronics, put together our Runner Starter Pack and explore the curious world of boozed up running. * [Cheese and wine marathon](https://secretldn.com/marathon-du-medoc-cheese-wine/) * [The Hovding Airbag cycle helmet—scroll down for the video](https://hovding.com/hovding3/) * [This fucking hat though lads](https://twitter.com/runnerpod/status/1198389536532901889) * Tell us about your [#runningstarterpack](https://twitter.com/hashtag/runningstarterpack?src=hashtag_click) on [popular hell site twitter dot com](https://twitter.com/runnerpod) * Send us shitty content and SEO proposals to [anything]@runnerpod.com * Join us on [Strava](https://www.strava.com/clubs/you-don-t-look-like-a-runner-445740) * Stickers still available if you [donate to Shelter](https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/runnerpod) ...
